Windows Messenger Advice

I currently have Windows Messenger 4.7 on the system which came with Windows XP.
I have downloaded MSN Messenger 6.1. Obviously Windows Messenger and MSN
Messenger are not the same.

What I want to know is should I stay with Windows Messenger and get the update
(if there is one and where do I get the update from?) or should I remove Windows
Messenger and replace it with MSN Messenger 6.1.

I don't use Messenger very often so I would appreciate the advice and comments.

As I understand it, you can have both applications on your PC and Windows
Messenger links in with other applications such as remote assistance,
whiteboard and stuff. Personally, I keep both Windows Messenger and MSN
Messenger up-to-date but really only use MSN Messenger for instant
messaging.

I wouldn't uninstall Windows Messenger, if I were you (it's a pain to,
anyway!) -- and would get the update. You never know when it might come in
handy!

Thanks Gareth, I'll have both then and install Messenger 6.1.

I am in the same boat, but my problem is that I automatically get logged
into WINDOWS Messenger when I open outlook Express.
Even though I've UNCHECKED "Automatically log into windows messenger" under
TOOLS > Options> General tab
How do I stop being Automatically logged in.
It's a real nuisance.
