I reinstalled my operating system XPHOME/SP2 now the help files on
messenger 4.73001 ane corrupted says cannot open
C/programs/messenger/xpmsgrlogonhtm

A very old version...
Upgrade first to a 7. version
I think, but correct me if i'am wrong, that the helpfiles are with a link to
the net, and with that version i don't think there are still on the
server...

Greetings,

To correct this, simply install Windows Messenger 5.1:

What is the advantage of 5.1 over 4.73001 are there additional
features? and most important will I still get my alerts with 5.1?
I know hot mail notification is out but I would like to keep the
alerts

Yes, alerts are still in 5.1. Windows Messenger 5.1 is considered a corporate client for
Live Communications Server and Exchange IM Server (but also has connectivity to the .NET
Messenger Service), as such, there really isn't much new functionality for the public
network.
