Windows Messenger 4.7.3000 and SP2

Philip Moss

Since upgrading Windows XP to Service Pack 2 I now have the new
version of Windows Messenger (4.7.3000) installed. This version
refuses to show my status as being 'away' when I am inactive for 5
mins (or any other time interval set) despite having activated this
behaviour in the Messenger Options. Only by downgrading to the
previous version of Messenger is this restored. This is irritating as
contacts think I am online and at the PC when I am actually away. Does
anyone have an idea as to what is causing this problem. Any help
would be appreciated.

I don't think the new version supports add ins.
Nor does version 5.0
Hopes this helps

I have a similar problem with all the alerts (checked
under Tools - Options - Preferences) stopped working
after installing SP2. Any solution how to get it to work?

Greetings Phillip,

This is the first I've heard of this problem specifically with 4.7.3000, but I'm glad to hear
that the downgrade solved the issue.
