A user has installed the windows memory diagnostic (mtinst.exe) on the hard
drive. Instructions from Microsoft state to install on a floppy or cd-rom
and use when the pc boots up. I'm concerned the program is installed on the
hard drive and is it possibe to remove this program?

Sure you can remove it,but first you may want to copy it
to a floppy or CD Rom so you'll have it to run the
test.Copy it to (whatever)then delete it(should go to the
recycle bin, then empty recycle bin).If your really
worried about it from your start menu do a search for
mtinst.exe and delete it from there also.It won't hurt
anything having it on the hard-drive you just need it on
a floppy or Rom when you boot to do the test(it won't
start from the H-D,needs to be in Rom or floppy to
run.I'ld leave it somewhere,like my documents,make a
folder called computer tools, and put it in there.

Thank you.....I was really concerned about it being on the hard drive, but
since it cannot run from the h-d, it puts my mind at ease at some odd things
that are going on with this pc. (Maybe XP SP2?? is the problem).....
