Windows Media Player will not play .WMV files

Hello,

I have tried "completely" uninstalling WMP and re-installing, but that did
not solve my problem : WMP says it does not recognise the codec when I
launche a .WMV file. Yet PowerDVD (I suppose it uses WMP's DirectShdow
filets) plays the .WMV file.

Does someone know the way out of this?

Try downloading the "codec installation package" from downloads/media.
If all fails,download the WM Format SDK 9.5
 
Please note that that codec package installation package should not be
installed onto a system that has WMP10. Doing so will break functionality -
that codec package is meant for v9 users only.
