Windows Media Player ANY version Locks up 2000pro

EVERY time I try to play a video in any version of WMP it locks up my entire
system with no errors reported in the event viewer. At first I thought it was
a problem as my HDD was kicking the bucket but after a new HDD and a complete
reinstall I still have this problem. All windows updates are current and alot
of other players work fine but I have yet to find a player that can play WMV
files other than WMP.

I have seen this reported MANY times on the web yet there are no technotes,
white papers or information on this problem it's as if MS is just ignoring
the problem.

Can I get some love here to help me solve this problem?

THANKS!

Having the same issue. Winamp can play the WMV file, but it locks up my
system as well. I've tried different video, sound, bios, codecs, etc with no
avail. I wish I could remember when mine stopped working then maybe I could
track it down. It has to be something with an MS update, but which one, I
can't tell. Good luck, will keep searching on my own for a solution, since
no one seems to know what is causing it, or won't admit it.

Same darned problem here with WMP9 locking Win2K-- I just uninstalled it and
went back to WMP Ver 7 -- works fine for me now...if you figure it out, let
me know???

Thanks!
