Windows Media Player 11 not opening.

Hello,
I am having problems with WMA 11 not opening in Vista. I click on the icon,
tried running as admin, and tried opening various forms of media and nothing
happens. When I reboot, it will come back and work for a while but if I
close it, it stops working until another reboot. Any ideas? I'm using Vista
Home Premium 32bit on a Dell XPS 410 with 2 gigs RAM. Thanks in advance for
any help.

Hi Tim,

Checking the Event logs would be a good idea. Click Start, type eventvwr.msc. Look at the Application and System logs to check if there are any events registered during the time when the problem occurred.

That also should likely be indicative of a driver locking up. What audio
and video devices do you have on this system? Are driver updates available
from the vendor?

I have a Nvidia Card 7300 LE and SigmaTel High Def Audio. I have the latest
drivers for both. I contacted Dell who told me to look into the Task Manager
to see if it was already running. What I found was that is was running but
clicking the icon wouldn't open it. The tech told me to close the open
instances and try opening WMP again. It works that way but I find it really
annoying that I have to do that whenever I want to open WMP11. Some other
annoying things are happening in WMP11 as well. I cannot delete any files, I
cannot modify any files, and I cannot use the update album info function. It
finds the correct album but does not change the info. I'm very frustrated
over this and have scoured the net for solutions to no avail. If anyone
knows what to do, fill me in!

Thanks - Tim Butler

All the library issues should be resolved if you reset the library--

If WMP is locking up on shutdown (which is what you're describing) that
should likely mean that one of those drivers is locking up during shutdown.
So I think right now you're hitting two problems - the corrupt library,
which should be easy to fix given the above, and the driver(?) issue.

Are Enhancements enabled on your audio card... ? I've seen many reports of
problems on that end with SigmaTels...
