I have a couple of questions about this issue:
1. Can you play other formats media, such as avi?
2. Is a specific wmv file cannot be played or all wmv files cannot be
played?
3. Does this issue occur in a new user account? You can also create a new
local user account, login with the new account and test this issue.
I suspect some settings have not been deleted when you remove WMP in
Add/Remove Programs. You may use the following steps to remove WMP 10 in
Add/Remove Programs and reinstall it:
1. Remove WMP in Add/Remove Prgormas. Backup and then delete the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Media
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CE3FB1D1-02AE-4a5f-A6E9-D9F1B4073E6C}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F1B9284F-E9DC-4e68-9D7E-42362A59F0FD}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8DD448E6-C188-4aed-AF92-44956194EB1F}]
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
2. Start -> Run -> regsvr32 /u wmpshell.dll
3. Delete the WMP folder in c:\Program Files\Windows Media Player
4. Go to the following URL and select "See all Windows Media Player
downloads". Make sure Windows Media Player 10 and select the language as
"English Language Version" and then download the file and install.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx
Good luck!
