Windows Mail

I am using Windows Mail in Vista. When I open my email it consistently
"drops" one of two emails. They don't go to the trash bin or anywhere else;
they're gone. What's causing this?

Open that folder (Inbox?) where you see the problem, then click View,
Current View. Make sure "Show All Messages" is selected.
That setting is on a 'per folder' basis.
