You don't.
What error messages do you get?
Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

It would be helpful if you explained how you want to send and receive email.

This is the error message I get when I try to forward an email. I can
sometimes send email and reply, but I cannot forward anything.
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Fw: FW: BUBBLEWRAP !', Account: 'incoming.verizon.net',
Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before reaching the server? If so, such connections
to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers. You may want
to check if Verizon's instructions for setting up to use their email servers
give you the choice of using any other port to avoid this problem:

Windows Mail is a part of Vista and very difficult to remove without also
removing the rest of Vista.

A recent version of the Trend antivirus program (details not available)
tends to create problems in Windows Mail, though, and it takes
uninstalling the Trend program (not just disabling it) to stop it from
creating these problems.
