How do I keep Windows Mail active, how do I make it go to the task bar when
I close it so it keeps running?

Minimize it, don't close it.

Like any Windows program, click on the minimize button instead of closing it.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I would like to keep it active in
the bottom right part of the screen next to the clock. I don't know what
that area is called.

That used to be called the system tray, but Microsoft now calls it
the notification area. WinMail by itself won't minimize to the
notification area, but someone recently developed a helper utility
which supposedly does just that. Sorry, I don't have the URL.
