I have been testing RC2 and using Windows Mail - I like it a lot.

Can I export email messages so that I can import them in Outlook Express
running on my other computer under XP.

Under Exprt I see Microsoft Exchange and Windows Mail.

Many thanks.

No formal export for Windows Mail back to OE exists as yet. What you can do
is create folders on your Desktop, USB Memory card, or other media, then
drag/drop the messages from a Windows Mail local folder to the folders
you've created (and it easiest to give those transfer folders names such as
Inbox, Sent, etc. to make it easier). Then take that media to your Outlook
Express setup and reverse the procedure (i.e., drag/drop them from the
Explorer folders into local mail folders in Outlook Express).

This is what I do for the Inbox. Some ISPs may not allow mail to be left on
their servers. If they do, it's a simple procedure :-

1. On both PCs :-
Open Outlook Express/Windows Mail, Tools, Accounts, Mail, [mail account(s)],
Properties, Advanced, Delivery, put a check in Leave a copy of messages on
server.

2. On one PC :-
Open Outlook Express, Tools, Accounts, Mail, [mail account(s)], Properties,
Advanced, Delivery, Remove from server after XX days (choose as appropriate)

3. Optional on one PC (if you delete mail when closing OE) :-
Open Outlook Express, Tools, Accounts, Mail, [mail account(s)], Properties,
Advanced, Delivery, put a check in Remove from server when deleted from
'Deleted Items'.

4. Send an email to yourself to check that it's working on both machines.

What is the file extension for mail in Vista? I tried *.dbx, which is what
it is for XP, but nothing came up.

Thanks

All mail messages are saved in folders as individual *.eml files. Those are
the files you need to drag/drop into Explorer folders.

Yes, it's simple; as long as both versions are of the .eml extension.
If so, then simply drag and drop from your exported version of Windows
Mail folders into corresponding matching folders in Outlook Express.
Works like a charm.
