In Outlook it is possible to clear the deleted items folder each time you
close Outlook. How can I do this in Windows Mail to avoid having to manually
celar it?

In Windows Mail select 'Tools', then 'Options', then choose the 'Advanced'
tab (far right one) then choose 'Maintenance' and check the box at 'Empty
messages from deleted items folder on exit'

Spot on! Well done GAR and thankyou.
It is a pity Windows makes something so useful so hard to find, even down to
hiding it in "maintenance"
Best wishes and thanks again.

Burying that function is done for a good reason, because it really is
not recommended. I don't know how many times I've been besieged for
help by folks who after exiting their mail program realized there was a
message in Deleted Items that they needed to retrieve. Too late!
