Windows Mail- cannot delete or read deleted messages

If the best solution is to upgrade to the Live Mail, can I just install it
over the existing Windows Mail and not lose my messages?

Apply this Microsoft Hotfix:

It mentions Outbox, but it works for all folders.

Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista

Download and then install.

Also get WMUtil from http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx
Read the instructions.

Run WMUtil with WM closed

WMUtil should do the job for you, if the hotfix fails.
 
The Hotfix works for deleteing emails, but the deleted messages still can't
be read in the Deleted Items folder. Is there a fix for that?
