Windows Mail and NIS

I bought a new computer. When I open mail I receive all my msgs. When I hit
send/receive button I get error msg. The error box has nothing in it. I
uninstalled NIS then reinstalled. Even when Norton was not installed my
windows mail still could not send or receive. If I close out the program and
open back up I will get new msgs; but I can't get them by pressing
send/receive. Any suggestions? This does not happen with my laptop, which
uses vista/Norton

Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Several users here have reported that Symantec will give you a free
upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009, which cures the problem. If interested,
contact Symantec via online chat.

Disabling the Norton program is often insufficient. Do a trial uninstall,
followed by using their debris removal tool:

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

Thank you for your answers. I will try to uninstall Norton with Symantec
removal tool. I will then reinstall via download and turn off the Email
scan. I also will download 2009 version which u mentioned has a patch. I
also plan on downloading Windows mail live. Again, thnks. I am currently in
Ireland so won't be able to work on my home computer until sometime next
week.

I recommend you test your Windows Mail after uninstalling Norton
and after using the special removal tool. If that test is successful,
you have pinpointed the problem.
