Windows Mail and IE Issue

G

Greg

We run Windows Vista Premium Home and Windows Mail - mail has always worked
fine. Recently, we became unable to send e-mails, although we still can
receive them fine. Also, IE cannot connect to the internet, but Forefox, on
the same computer, can.

Any suggestions on how to fix?

Since this newsgroup is dedicated to Windows Mail issues, we can't

and include a copy of any error messages.

Theo:
I spent all morning with Microsoft on the phone. The issue was Norton
Antivirus, which came with the computer. Once we were able to get the Norton
files completely removed everything worked fine. To completely remove the
Norton files, we had to download a Norton removal tool from
newnrt.notlong.com - once I was able to run this removal tool it worked great
- I actually had to download the tool from another computer onto a CD, then
run it on the problem computer.

Best of Luck with this - hopefully it will work for you.

OK this is the message I get

I have 2GB RAM and the system is very new. I can execute all programs as far
as I can tell - bar IE & WIndows Mail.

I receive two errors when trying to open a message in Windows Mail

The first is - "One or more parts of this message could not be displayed"

I click on OK

Then I get "There was an error opening this message, There is not enough
memmory"

Your problems with Windows Mail may be due to interference
from an antivirus program. What if any antivirus programs do you
have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus
program on that computer?

Sorry, I can't help with your IE problem.

Good work Greg

I don't have Norton installed.

It does seem like a driver conflict somewhere - but wouldn't know where to
start.

Windows sidebar is also faulty. Seems as though all the gadgets on Vista are
faulty.

No anti virus installed.

Windows Mail is poor at reporting problems caused by interference
from antivirus programs, often calling them running low on memory instead.
What if any antivirus programs do you have, and have you ever had a
Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer, even a trial
version?

Most new computers come with a trial version of an antivirus
program already installed. Check your list of installed programs
again.

Thanks for that testimony. We've been preaching the same advice here
for the past 17 months.

I have spent ages trying to get an answer to this problem.
I have a new computer and have set up Windows Mail to recieve my emails.
Everthing is fine, emails are coming through and I can answer them, but I
cannot see the left hand side where it says inbox, sent, deleted mail, etc. I
have tried to expand the box where my incoming mail is to get to the left
hand side of it so I can access my mail I have sent but the right hand
expands instead. The whole thing does not look the same as my outlook express
in XP. (which I have still got on my pc) The idea is to have access to my
emails in my front room on my laptop via a router and and this all works fine.
Look forward to hearing from you all soon with your replies to this
perplexing problem. Bou

This is a naked system with the bare essentials, there is no anti virus
installed.

I'd like to ask how one can reinstall Windows Mail, it seems impossible
through the VISTA cd.

Click on View, then Layout. If there's no checkmark in the box before
Folder List, click on this box, then Apply. Click on OK.

If you don't see the toolbar containing View, press the Alt key.

You can't reinstall Windows Mail without reinstalling all of Vista.
If your only problem was with Windows Mail, I'd advise you to
upgrade to Windows Live Mail. However, since your IE is not working
either, you'll need to look elsewhere for the source of the problem.
Perhaps a reinstall of Vista would be the way to go.
