The next thing I am curious about is, since my keyboard on my desktop
doesn't have the Windows logo key and my Inspron 1100 dows, what is
the Windows logo key for?

The Windows key is like a CTRL and the Alt key. It is for
short cuts. Like Windows key R brings up the ?RUN command.

It also opens your Start Menu in case you have a mouse problem and need to
open the menu with your keyboard.

Click Start, Help and Support and in the search window enter "windows
keyboard shortcuts overview" and read all about it.

Why not press it and find out?
