Problem- Windows will randomly lock up and when trying to reboot will stop at
first boot screen.
Troubleshootiing- Event is random - Event viewer shows no errors - After
several attempts to reboot, machine will start - Checked all connections on
motherboard - checked voltage coming into machine - replaced keyboard and
mouse - Reformated hard drive, reloaded windows and updated all drivers (a
couple of weeks went by before issue popped up again)
Machine - Intel 3.4, machspeed SKT775 motherboard, patriot memory (1024) -
Hitachi hard drive - athenatech case - less than one year old.
I am thinking motherboard, but wanted to see if anyone else had another
possible solution

Random lockups are usually caused by hardware. The newness of the
hardware is irrelevant; in fact, if hardware is going to fail it will
usually do so fairly quickly. Here are some general hardware
troubleshooting steps:

I'd be looking at overheating, power supply, and RAM before suspecting
the motherboard.
