When browsing my hard disk with Windows Explorer I keep getting an annoying
popup saying "Windows Live ID Internet Connection Error".
It seems to wants to force me to connect to the internet even though I have
no need or intentions to do so!

From time to time I also get another popup saying "Sign In with Windows Live
ID".

Please tell me how to remove these popups permanently, once and for all,
forever and ever and for all eternity so help me ....

If necessary I will be willing to delete my "Live" account - would already
have done so if I thought it would help!

Microsoft will do a great service to mankind by eliminating all pop-ups,
program-"helpers" (unless specifically asked for by the user).
"carefull"-warnings as "Are you sure" followed by "Are you sure you are sure"
and the like.

For the record: I am using Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2 and Internet
Explorer 6 both in US-English.

Thanks for the tip but I have'nt any entry similar to "Windows Live ID
Sign-in Assistant" in the "Add/Remove Programs" - utility?

Then uninstall any Windows Live application(s) currently installed (e.g.,
Windows Live Messenger) and reboot. Then reinstall it, opting NOT to
install the Sign-In Assistant or anything else other than the application
itself.

Don´t have "Windows Live Messenger" or anything else "Live ....".

Have only "Windows Messenger" but it is not checked in "Add/Remove Windows
Components" (so it does´nt show up on the Start Menu nor the Desktop).

Anyway I have disabled "Windows Messenger" a long time ago using Autoruns.exe
from www.sysinternals.com (great, free utility - try it).

Task Manager does not show any suspicious processes and the Registry does
not return anything when searching for anything involving "live", so I
probably can't get rid of the popups using the normal XP-interface.

Using the Spy.exe tool reveals, that the popup window is a child of the main
"Windows Explorer" window, so either the popup is actually a genuine add-on
or somehow manages to pose as such.

Got any more ideas, PA Bear?

Thanks in advance.
