Windows keeps recognizing new hardware (printers)

Every time I reboot or XP decides to reboot I it keeps re-
discovering the same hardware that has been installed and
is operating perfectly.

I've even tried deleting the hardware and re-installing
it to no avail.

It sounds trivial but having to hit the hardware wizards
cancel button to get by it is frustrating to say the
least. The hardware is an Epson C80 Printer and an HP 610
Officejet printer.

Any hints on how to stop this?

Thanks.

Same problem here with my Samsung laser printer. I installed the
driver from the CD, the printer worked all right (but didn't show up
in the device manager and still hasn't), and it kept being
rediscovered as new hardware after a reboot if it was turned on.

I did a google search for the printer model plus "add new hardware",
found a pointer towards www.driversguide.com. From there I found that
installing a Lexmark driver would stop the printer from being detected
as new hardware, with quite a few notes posted from users of the site
saying that they'd been going insane trying to figure it out... and
that one person had been pointed towards this solution by a Samsung
rep. The downside is that the toner saver setting doesn't work, but I
figure on switching to the older driver when that becomes relevant.

You may find something similar for your Epson. If you want to try to
driversguide site, the universal log in is: drivers; password: all

A "method" I once used :-)
let Windows install the new printer, label it "Do not use" and make your
real one the default.
It will appear in the drop down list of "available" printers, but don't use
it. After a couple of months I deleted the "do not use" printer, and
Windows behaved itself from then on.
