windows is locked on return from screensaver

yesterday when i returned to my computer and moved the mouse to get the
screensaver off i was prompted to enter a name and password bcause windows
had locked my computer.
this has never happened before and it now also asks me to log in on boot-up
even though i dont have the login screen activated.
also, when i go to restart or shutdown i get the dropdown menu like pre-xp
operating systems ie:shutdown, restart, log off, hibernate. this has never
happened before either.
has anyone got any ideas how to get back to the original?
many thanks in advance for your help

Enable Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching

Click Start, Run and type Control Userpasswords
Click Change the way users log on or off
Enable Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching options and click Apply Options button

thank you for your help, it fixed the log on/off problem but i still get the
'computer is locked' message after the screensaver goes off. it has my name
in one box and asks for a password in the other. i don't know a password
because i have never set one, but if i just click on the ok button it acts as
though i have entered a correct password, any ideas?

That's normal if you have only one user account in the system.
