Windows "Internet Logs" folder

What are the items stored in the Windows Internet Logs folder? Can these be
deleted and cleared out? I have WIN XP Home SP2.

Seems like if these are merely "logs" they are not needed to actively run
systems or programs. But what are they and how do they get used? Are they
necessary to keep or can they be deleted?

Thanks.....

From Zone Alarm help:

<Q>

By default, alerts generated by Zone Labs security software are logged in
the file, ZAlog.txt. If you are using Windows95, Windows98 or Windows Me,
the file is located in the following folder: (x):\Windows\Internet Logs. If
you are using WindowsNT or Windows2000, the file is located in the following
folder: (x):\Winnt\Internet Logs.

To view the current log as a text file:

Select Alerts & Logs|Main.
Click Advanced.
The Advanced Alerts & Log Settings dialog box opens.
Select the Log Control tab.
In the Log Archive Location area, click View Log.

In addition to what Ramesh posted.

ZALog.txt can be gotten rid of completely.

Double click the ZoneAlarm icon by the clock
Click on Alerts & Logs on the left
Click the Main tab
Click the Advanced button
Unselect: Archive log text files daily
Click the Delete Log button
Click OK to the message that pops up

You cannot get rid of the tvDebug.log

I do delete its contents every once in a while.

Thanks... that gives me a bit more info. So you say that you do indeed
"empty" this INTERNET LOG folder from time to time as one would empty the
Temporary Files folder, etc.?

There are such file as "xDB7tmp, xDB8tmp, etc" Many of these. Also several
zip folders "vsmon_2nd_2006_02_11_, etc." "vsmon_on_demand_2006_04_" too.
"dumpindex", "IAMDB.RDB", and of course the "tvDebug". So can ALL of these
be delted if they are deleteable? Or as you say the tvDebug probably does not
aloow you to delete it.

Thanks.

I meant that I delete the contents of the tvDebug.log once in a while.

The tmp files should go away when you reboot.

You can delete anything in the Internet Logs folder if vsmon.exe and
zonealarm.exe are not running. Pull the plug on your modem first.

However, if you delete the *.idb file and the .rdb files you lose all of
your ZoneAlarm customizations. Just as if you had reinstalled it.

I do delete everything in the Internet Logs folder when the files look too
big to me. It is a PIA though, like mentioned above.
