Windows Installer

When trying to install some different programs on my computer, I am getting an error message telling me that I need the latest edition of Windows Installer. When searching on the Microsoft website, all I can find is downloads for anything but XP. It is my understanding that the installer is part of the OS. Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

The Windows Installer is kind of akin to 'install shield' its MS copying
anothers work (and not as well)

Fairly certain the the NT/2K install should work (no guarantees, but it
should)

Also, many MS applications use the MSI installer files to install, so
games/applications released for windows XP
probably would have a XP version of the Installer program supplied (and your
right, your OS should support .msi out of box, same as .cab and .zip)

Dont install 2000 installer software for xp,xp is at version 2.0,there ar
no updates or dwnloads for it.You can open ADM.,services, scroll down t
installer, start service and/or double click on it,instead of being in manuall
start configuration, select start automatically.Itll start then on every window
start-up,however it only runs a short time by default.
