Windows Installer

When I try to reinstall or uninstall Outlook(Office 2003 version), The
Installer stops with a message that it cannot find the path to a file called
511735.MAINSP1op.MSP.
Clicking OK reveals the message "The network resource is unavailable". I've
searched the whole hard disk and installation CDROM in vain. I'm logged in as
Administrator and have recently updated to SP2.
Any help greatly appreciated.

It's late sunday evening and I'm having the exact problem. The post from the
fellow that copied it from another computer gives hope, but I don't have such
access. Does this file exist on the internet anywhere? What a hell of a
piece of software. You can't uninstall it and start over, update it, or even
talk to someone at microsoft without spending $35. Why has computing
deteriorated to this point. If you get a solution please share.

Ken,
You asked to share and here is the solution I found, amazingly simple.
It apears that this type of error is generated by the Windows Installer when
it does not clean up properly after a run. To cure do the following.

1. Get hold of the Windows Installer Cleanup utility from the Microsoft web
site and install it.

2. Run the program. Select to clean the errant application.

3. Reinstall the application.

Footnote:- When I ran Outlook for the first time after reinstalling Office
I got an abnormal program termination message. Running it again told me that
my Norton Anti Spam was misbehaving, would I like to disable it. Relied yes,
and all is now well. This ties in with my Last Big Problem on this PC, which
was Norton Internet Security, which I had to reinstall.

Good luck with yours.
