Windows installer problem

I am trying to install wordviewer 2003 on my computer. I have it on my
laptop and it works fine. However when I try to install it on my PC windows
installer says
The patch package could not be opened and to verify the patch package
exists. The wordviewer has been downloaded from Microsoft web site. I have
run msiexec / reg and msiexec / regserver but it hasn't cleared the problem.
Any ideas please.

Are you sure that is exactly what the message says? It helps to post
the message in as much detail as possible.

Using Google I searched for your reported error: The patch package
could not be opened

and got results for "This patch package...", not "The patch
package...", but typos happen.

Anyway, you will find some links in the top of Google search results
and some take you to some Microsoft pages for similar issues and
possible solutions. The couple I looked at did not mention running
mstexec /anything, so I am wondering how you came up with that idea.

Please report back if you get it fixed and how you did it!

Use Dial-a-fix to repair "Windows Installer".

Run it, select "Windows Installer" and let it do its thing.

Been on microsoft web site and the message I am getting is due to having
rolled back my PC to a previous date. SP 2 has lost the patches but I don't
know how to re install them. It is windows installer error code 1635. Still
looking for resolution.

Resolved. support.microsoft.com/kb932857/en-us. Start> all programs>windows
install clean up.
Installed products list highlight associated products in my case Office.
Remove then exit. Reload Office. All ok now thanks.
