Windows Installer Difficulties.

Java was not installed on this PC when I set it up. When trying to install
java the following error message appears.

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running windows in safe mode, or if Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. etc".

Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service not accessed. Windows in safe
mode or Windows Installer not installed correctly. is another instance of
this problem.

I am running XP Professional Media Centre 2005.

I installed CA Security Suite on 22/01/07 and have installed other SW
packages since then until this error occured. CA inform me that they don't
support their product on Media Centre 2005. "Thats great".

I seem to have full internet connectivity and the system on boot up appears
not to go into safe mode. I have deactiviated CA Firewall.

What maybe the problem

Click Start, Run, and type SERVICES.MSC. In the right pane, right-click Windows Installer, and then click Start. Also, set the service "Startup Type" to Manual.
