Windows Home upgrade to X64

I have a new Compaq Presario Model R4225CA with an Athlon 64 processor. the
machine runs XP Home.

The download from Microsoft: CanI download it and apply it to my system
without deleting any of the installed programs etc, in other words, would it
work like a regular Windows XP Pro Upgrade?

No. The 64-bit version of Windows XP Pro
must be installed "clean" on a reformatted drive
or in an available empty partition.
