windows help problems - references to files in compiled help files don't work

Amy

I've noticed over the past couple of months that, when
browsing through Windows Help files, some of the inline
graphics aren't found. Eg, instead of the actual graphic,
a box with an X through it is displayed as a placeholder
on the page. When I right click on graphics and look at
the properties dialog, it shows the Address of the file(s)
as, for example,

ms-its:c:\winnt\help\ntshared.chm::/shortcutHot.gif

Also, a link to a glossary file doesn't work, when I click
on it, I see a dialogue saying that the file can't be
found. The properties shows the Address of the file as

ms-its:C:\WINNT\Help\netcfg.chm::/HELP=glossary.hlp
TOPIC=gls_vpn

Does anyone know what could cause this?

Thanks,
Amy

A number of the security patches for Internet Explorer that Microsoft
has released this year are known to break the HTML Help ActiveX
control, which is the component that provides the navigation
facilities in the help files.

This problem is described in Knowledge Base article 822989 and, in
your case, installing Critical Update 811630 should sort it out.
