hello all...
I switched on my computer to find that all of the windows settings have been
reset - it's as if I have re-installed xp...only i haven't. The theme is
back to the factory setting, my start menu, my broswer bookmarks have gone,
defaulted back to IE, my passwords for sites, everything gone...even in
outlook - my emails are gone & my file structure is gone - only the inbox
remains...but there's nothing in it.. I thought - god, i've been hit by a
virus - ran a scan ...& nothing...can anyone helpme out...what's wronge with
xp...& is there a solution??
Any help...greatly appreciated,
Cheers

Maybe, you are not in your account. Start Windows then make sure you are in correct
account.

Sounds like you've been hit with malware. "A" scan isn't good enough. Do a
virus scan and use at least three spyware scanners & see if htey don't find
some things. Be sure ALL updates are done prior to doing any scanning;
otherwise you're wasting your time.
There is a lot more than viruses out there to protect yourself from. Add
a firewall if you don't have one. ZoneAlarm is a good one & has a free
version.
