Windows genuine copy update

i just purchased the genuine copy online. i rec'd the product key and
started up the 'product key update tool'. it is giving me this error
message though:
"Product Key update failure.
The application has encountered an error while downloading required files
from Microsoft. Please ensure the machine is connected to the Internet and
try again. [Error: 0x800004005]" i am connected to the internet, so why is
this happening and how can i correct it? thanks in advance.
