865PE Neo2P motherboard, pentium4 3.0 ghz processor, 1 gb corsair value
digital ram, xtasy radeon 9600 256 video card.

Got the computer back from PC Club in November, where they replaced the
processor for me and reinstalled windows. In the past few weeks, it freezes
up intermittently, usually around 15 minutes of use. Sometimes longer.
Really only using it to surf the internet right now. I've run a registry
cleaner and disk check. Replaced the cpu fan thinking that was the problem.
Didn't help. I can run it for hours in safe mode. Installed the newest
photoshop recently, then uninstalled after the problem started. Nothing else
new since. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Report in the System and
Application over the last 2 days and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Okay, one more update. Froze up again within 5 minutes of booting up. Adobe
reader was performing an update over the internet, and it locked a couple
minutes in. I shut the computer down, restarted, and checked the event
viewer for errors. No errors during the time it froze up. I'm going to try
uninstalling adobe reader and see if that helps.

Jeez, this is getting ridiculous. When I try to uninstall, I get an error
message "internal error 2711. patchextras" and it won't let me uninstall.
Adobe's site is very little help. Could this be part of the problem?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is not a programme I favour. On a system with limited
resources it makes problems. Recently I was told about another reader and
this works much better.

An alternative to Adobe is Foxit.

What version of Adobe Acrobat Reader?

With regard to Error Reports with need to concentrate only on recent Reports
i.e.
within the last 48 hours. Has there been any recurrence of this Report?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Don't see any errors in device manager. And I'll definitely try that reader
you suggested. Once I figure out how to get adobe's uninstalled. :)

Ian

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

It doesn't find any that aren't signed. message says "your files have been
scanned and verified as digitally signed".

On an added note, it's now freezing up in safe mode as well. Does that
indicate a hardware problem? I'm about ready to take this thing in for
repair.
