British Navy submarine captains are the only officers worldwide (as of the mid 90s or so) to have the independent right to launch nuclear missiles if they lose contact with the Admiralty.

I'd be interested to know what sort of stuff is powered my Windows XP on the sub (although we'll never find out) - I suspect it's probably being used as a DB server and totally disconnected from anything important.

It does remind me of this advert though, which makes me cringe so much everytime I see it:


Do you think that guy was in charge of HMS Vanguard a few weeks back? ;)
