Hi! I have installed SP2 slipstream and, as you know,
Windows Firewall is on by default. I've passed a port
scanner from a Website and ICMP echo 8, 445 TCP and
NetBIOS ports are open. In Windows Firewall I have "File
and printer sharing" checkbox stated in "Subnet only",
Why port scanning from Internet detects these ports?

Thank's in advance.

paul,

that has been my problem too with sp2, the reason why i am using zonealarm
pro now.

anyways, the reason why your computer responds to an icmp echo request is
because file and printer sharing is enabled and that, below it (click on
edit button), port 445 is enabled. it may be "on subnet only" but it seems
to respond to icmp echo from "any computer."

try disabling port 445 and running the port scanner. icmp echo would not
then be detected. however, i am not sure if file and sharing would still
work after this.

if you are not using internet sharing, then you can download and use the
free zonealarm instead.

would appreciate your feedback on this matter as well.

hope this helps.
