Windows Firewall on Start-Up

I am currently using the Windows (Vista Premium) firewall while I am waiting
for the developer of the firewall I normally use to come out with a
Vista-compatible version.

When I start my Acer laptop, it frequently comes up with the Windows
firewall turned off. Is there something I can set so that the firewall will
automatically be turned on when I start my computer?

Check that 'Windows Firewall' is on automatic startup in

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

Also have a look in Event Viewer for any startup error messages.

A virus / malware scan may also be advisable.

Are you using an antivirus or security suite that has a firewall
component such as McAfee or Norton? If so, those programs will disable
the WF by design since you don't want two firewalls running.

Malke:

Have you personally experienced problems running two f/ws together?

TIA

Yeah, one refuses to install unless the other one is turned off. Running
two firewalls makes no sense anyway, just make sure you are running a really
good one.

you don't say whether you have that other firewall installed on your
computer, or not, while to are waiting for a driver update for it. If you
have another firewall included in some other internet security program,
windows firewall will remain turned off, as 2 firewalls do not go together

Mick:

I have been testing f/ws in Vista.
Among those I have tested, only NIS 2007 disables Vista's f/w
The following do not disable it:
ZA beta
VistaFirewallControl
PC Tools Plus

Two f/ws can be run together per my experience over a number of years.
I run each of the following separately with Vista's f/w enabled:
ZA beta
VistaFirewallControl
PC Tools Plus
