windows file protection

i'm having a issue with windows file protection.
its asking me for the CD for windows xp to repair the files and all but it
keeps rejecting the CD.
i have WinXP MCE 2005 on my laptop.
since i only have one pc with mce on it, windows file protection should not
reject the mce OS disc.
any ideas on how to fix this?

does anyone know what the run command for windows file protection?

Several Registry keys/values affect this:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

CDInstall tells XP whether it's original source was CD or a local
disk folder/share. SourcePath reflects the drive letter of the original
source device. Then if a Service Pack has been applied that is
higher in revision than the original, you'll have a key named
ServicePackSourcePath.

Both SourcePath and ServicePackSourcePath usually reference
the Root of the particular drive - so the key value will be something
like F:\

The best solution is to copy the i386 from the CD and then use
a slipstreaming method to embed the latest ServicePack. Then
change the two key values above to reflect that location. Finally,
toggle the CDInstall value = 0.
