I get this error message:
Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been
replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability,
Windows must restore the original version of these files.
Insert your Windows 2000 Professional CD now

Anyone know what this is?

Thanks

We're seeing this a lot, especially on our 2000 machines
with pre SP4, that are getting a lot of hotfixes pushed to
them. We've solved it by either reinstalling SP3 or
upgrading to SP4. Why it asks for a CD and doesn't allow
you to point it anywhere else, I don't know.

So you found SP4 solves it.
That is very handy to know.

Thanks for the info, Michael

This is indicating that one of the files that is core to Windows 2000 is
trying to be replaced. If you insert the Windows 2000 CD and type:

Start/Run
sfc /scannow it will correct the problem.
