Fred B.

In earlier versions of Explorer we had Tools/Folder Options/File Types.
Can't find the "File Types" in Vista.

Anyone know where they've been put?

Thanks

Go to Control panel, Default programs, Associate a file type or protocol with
a program.

Hi,
The user interface and options have changed, but go to Control panel>
Default Programs> Associate a file type...

Some functions are also available from Default Programs> Set your default
programs> etc.

Hope this helps,

Thanks ...... found it, but what I really wanted to do was change the
"default icons" for several file types. When I went in there, I couldn't
find that option.

I know it sounds as little "dopey", but my sight's slightly impaired, and I
used that method in XP for seeing a bit easier.

Hi Fred,

Unfortunately, MS has dropped the "File Types" dialog in Vista. See this blog post (especially the Comments section) for more information:

To change the default icon for a file class, you may need to edit the registry directly. Or you can use a third-party file type association tool to automate things. See:
