Windows explorer slowed down by WiFi

Might there be an XP reason for why, when my wireless network link is
active, explorer and applications don't open immediately but are
delayed for about ten seconds? Machine is a new 3Gig P4 with XP home.
Turning off wireless link returns everything to normal.

Zone alarm firewall made the delay about twice as long and Agnitum
Outpost firewall (zone alarm uninstalled, of course) has a smaller but
significant effect.

Does anyone have a clue about what looks like a potentially complex
effect?

Ok - nobody.

Well, in case anyone else gets it, it was a result of the fact that
one of the elements in my wifi network wasn't connecting properly
because it's wireless card didn't support 128bit coding. Once I had
got the card into the network by dropping down to 64bit, the delays in
getting double-clicked items on my desktop to open disappeared.
