Windows Explorer Search Companion Not Working

I

Imposter

The WIndows Explorer Search Companion has stopped working on 2 out of 3 user
accounts on my computer. All are set to admin level. One account works
correctly while the other 2 only show the animated dog within a blue panel -
no search boxes or text are displayed. I can go back to the foloder view
and everything seems to work correctly. Any suggestions to try? Thanks

I have the same problem: the Search window in Win XP Pro comes up totally blank since yesterday. I tried the Kelly's Korner suggestion (link above), but when I follow the article's instructions and right-click on the Srchasst.inf file there *is no "Install" command available in the context menu*. What can I do now?

Update:
I just found the procedure, using Google, to repair the "Install" command for the srchasst.inf file. It went through the whole installation procedure for the Search Assistant. After it finished, however, the Search window/pane (the whole thing) still comes up blank! What could be happening here? And how can it be fixed? Thanks in advance.

Untill we get a fix for this problem; I am going to the command prompt in "Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt" and using the dir command.
Say I want to seardh for "msgr3en.dll" in the windows folder and its
sub-directories, I would type in "dir C:\windows\msgr3en.dll /s" hit enter
and a list of them in their directories will show.

Type: "help" and a list of commands will be shown.

Type: "help [and the command name]" and the syntax for the command will
be shown

Hope this helps.

If you have recently installed Windows Desktop Search, this could be the
problem. Try to uninstall it but be careful, some of your taskbar toolbars
(if you use them) will disappear. Not a big deal, you just have to recreate
them. Also beware of the other programs it may inform you of changing.
