Windows Explorer Problem

I cannot click on the "File" menu on the menu bar of any folder I open.

I cannot right click in any opened folder.

I cannot right click on the desktop.

Attempting to do any of these things results in the same thing; the screen
goes black, within 30-45 seconds everything is back the way it was except
the folder I clicked the file menu in or right clicked in closes.

Winxp pro SP1 2.4 GHz 256 ram
Ran registry Mechanic and fixed all errors.

Any ideas????
