Windows Explorer navigation changes from one form to another when typing without notice

At first when I boot up the system, I can just type the name of the
folder/file and it will take me to it. After so much time, it will quit
working like that and switch over to moving you to the next file that
matches the character you type in, which is not what I want to happen.

Example:

Given:

Multiple folders within the directory "Projects" begins with the caracter of
"5"

The first folder within the "Projects" folder that begin with "5555" is
after 176 other folders begins with "5"

Using the Folder view on the left side (Folders button depressed at the top
of the window) with the left pane as the active pane.

Situation 1: Type to get to the exact folder name

If I type "5555", it will take me to the first folder that begins with
"5555" in the "Projects" folder, or the 177th folder that begins with "5".

Situation 2: Go to the folder by typing only the first character of the
folder name

If I type "5555", it will take me to the fourth folder that begins with "5"
in the "Projects" folder.

I want Situation 1 to stay in place at all times, and never switch to
situation 2. What needs to be done to meet this requirement? I don't want
to be wasting time having to using the other navigation keys to get to the
proper place within the server. Some might say to use the mouse instead,
but with me using the keyboard quite a bit, a constant switching back and
forth between the keyboard and the mouse would also be a big time waster as
that slows down the process of getting things done. Yes, the individual
time itself doesn't seem like much, but multiply that by hundreds a day, and
it adds up fast.

When I first started doing data entry, I didn't mind it so much until the
year when the IRS decided to go against it's policy handbook about break
times for those of us doing nothing but data entry, which is stated as
taking a 5 minute break every 1 hour of work not counting lunch hour and not
counting the last hour, thus for a 10 hour work shift ( it's really 10.5
hours as 30 minutes is unpaid lunch break), we should have had a total of 40
minutes of paid break time, but instead, we only got 30 minutes of paid
break time, thus we would work 3 hours straight through without a single
break and after doing that for 6 to 7 nights a week over a period of 4
months straight through, early stages of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) had
taken hold.

Now I do mostly programming type work as that was my ticket out of data
entry, but I'm also very sensitive to anything dealing with time wasters
when working with the computer.

I know some might say to use the address bar, but some of those folder/file
names can get to be rather long, thus why I use the folder view and then
just use the right arrow key for when going a level deeper, or I press the
left arrow key 2 times to move up a folder level and collapse the tree to
see just the parent directory name and none of it's child directory names.

It all boils down to how fast you can key in the letters and how busy
the system is. If the system is real busy like right after you first
login, you may be able to enter several key strokes and have it accepted
as a single input string, if you type slower or the system gets less
busy, you will get the individual strokes recognized.

This isn't even dealing with rather the system is processing data or not.
Please read the below as the behavior has nothing to do with how fast or
slow one types nor does it have to do with the system capacity or what the
system is doing itself for data processing. Let's try this again.

List:

5000234
5000289
5000309
5000312
5000345
.. . .
5554987
5555034

If I type "5555",

Under situation 1, it would take me to the item "5555034"

Under situation 2, it would take me to the item "5000312"

I want the behavior of situation 1, not the behavior of situation 2.
Situation 2 is too much of a time waster for me.

Also, some of these files/folders can get to be rather long names (30+
characters) and it would be nice to only have to type in the first few
characters rather than all 30+ characters per folder level. I know the
maximum capacity of the path names can be no longer than 214 characters.

One more thing, early in the day, even when the system isn't doing anything
other than what I'm typing into it within the Windows Explorer, it works
properly under situation 1. However, by the time it's late in the day, it
has reverted to situation 2.

Also, early in the day, I could even type slower and it work fine while
later in the day, i type faster, and it still reverts to situation 2.
