Windows explorer folder customizations

With Windows XP, Explorer customizes the context menus based on the types of files contained in the folder. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it doesn't do a good job of it.

Specifically, the folder type Music (best for audio files and playlists) is missing a very useful option in the context menu: arrange files by modification date.

Two (related) questions:
1) How can I turn this customization off? Just changing the folder type to document (context -> properties -> customize) doesn't seem to work always (it just inexplicibly reverts back), and is not possible in top level folders.
2) How can this option be otherwise added to the context menu?

Right-click the column header and put a checkmark in "Date Modified". The context menu should have the option Arrange Icons By > Modified (which is Date Modified).

The option has to be enabled from Detail View.
