Okay, I probably sound like an idiot here, especially since I've been using
XP for quite some time. However, this one only became apparent under
specific circumstances, so bear with me please.

I have some download folders orgranized by program and version, with names
like "InternetExplorer-v5", "InternetExplorer-v501", "InternetExplorer-v55",
"InternetExplorer-v6", "InternetExplorer-v61sp1", etc.

Under 2000 and previous (I verified this), you would have (leaving off
InternetExplorer) v5, v501, v55, v6, v61sp1. This has been standard sorting
for names since DOS v3.3.

XP displays the order as v5, v6, v55, v61sp1, v501. I don't get it, and I
cannot seem to figure out how to change it. HELP!!

I know this seems trivial, but I have A LOT of archived stuff, and the
screwy alpha display is really messing with my mind when I try to find things.

The sorting method is changed in Windows XP. The method that is used for
sorting is described at the following MSDN Web site:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Thanks Kelly,

Right after I posted this, I discovered how to correct the problem on my own
through KB Article 319827. I was just coming back to the newsgroup to say
never-mind.

I apprecaite your quick response. However, I wish to raise a concern about
your website. Immediately on entering, I received a pop-up for a casino ad.
Is this intentional? or has someone hijacked you? Further, if someone has
hijacked you, you may want to check all of those REG files on your site. It
certainly gives me great pause about downloading anything from there, but
ESPECIALLY REG files. I'm sure you understand my concern.
