Windows Explorer does not show drives above E:

It is probably something simple but……..

Drives above E: are not shown in Windows Explorer. OS is XP Professional. The problem appeared when I installed a new DVD-RW.

Present configuration:
IDE1: C: (Master) OS and Applications, D: (Logical) Data
IDE2: E: (Master) DVD-ROM/CD-RW, F: (Slave) DVD-RW

Both the CD-RW and DVD-RW are properly jumpered and the BIOS recognizes both correctly. Applications that utilize the drives recognize them. Example: my camcorder software and Roxio CD/DVD Creator 6 see both drives.

Switching jumpers to make the DVD-RW Master and CD-RW Slave makes no difference. Changing the drive letter designation through Disk Management makes no difference. If I change the DVD-RW to E: and the CD-RW to F:, F: does not show in Windows Explorer. I might add that I’ve tried View | Refresh and rebooting after each change.

It’s something I can work with as the applications see both drives. However, Windows Explorer should see both drives – I’m intrigued and would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for what you can offer.
