How do I set up the default path when access explorer from right-click start
then click explorer. It comes up with /documents and settings/user/start/.
This is not what I want explorer to come up with for a view of my folders. I
just want it to show the D: drive and its associate folders. Is there a way
to change this?

Hello,

You right click on the start button and select "Explore" and explorer opens up at 'C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\Start Menu', doesnt that quite make sense ? You are 'exploring' the start menu
and hence you are directed there. I am not sure if that can be customised. Instead, you can hit
Windows key + E and open explorer. This can be easily customised as per the KB article below:

Customizing your Windows+E is certainly one way to go. But if you want
something on your start menu that will give you an explorer window to in a
specific location, you might try creating a shortcut and placing it in the
quick access portion of your start menu.

In some convenient folder that you won't delete, right click and create a
new shortcut. When the wizard appears, browse to the folder you want
Explorer to opn on. So in your case the line will read:
D:\

Hit the next button and give the shortcut a name that you like - for you it
will default to Local Disk(D:) which should be fine - then hit the Finish
button.

To get the shortcut onto your start menu, drag the link you just created to
the Start button and simply release the mouse button. The shortcut you
created will now appear in the quick access portion of the menu. You can
relocate the shortcut by simply dragging it to a different position in the
menu.

This doesn't give you right click acess to your location, but it still puts
you two clicks away from where you want to be.

The advantage over customizing your Windows+E is that you can create as many
of these links as you like. You'll still want to customize the Windows+E if
you go to the same location repeatedly as your major prefererance.

I hope this helps.
