I need help. I have purchased a dell and did not receive the xp cd with my
order. I need to re-install this OS but do not have the cd's. I was told I
could re-install from using my orginal hard drive, there is a back up there.
Well I am lost and I believe my computer has another user besides me,
computer take over. I was told this would take care of the issue by
re-install xp. I have called dell and they have said they can not sent
those cd but I could purchase them. I bought the stupid computer I should
have those cd for problems like this.

Can I use someone else's windows xp and use my license number? Were can I
find that #

thank you for your help

And what leads you to believe your computer is possessed?

So re-install from the backup on your hard drive. Dell should have provided
you with instructions to do so, or (I'm guessing here) make those
instructions available on their web site.
I was told

A re-install may not be the correct solution for a couple of reasons: It's
pretty Draconian and a re-install does nothing to solve the original
problem. All you would be doing with a re-install is returning your machine
to the vulnerable state it had in the first place.

Dell saves about fifty-cents each by not providing a CD. That's what happens
when you bargain-hunt.

Probably not. The "other" CD may be tied to the serialized BIOS in the
computer, it may not contain the appropriate drivers for your machine. Even
a retail version of XP may not work because of driver issues.
