This often means an antivirus program is interfering with Windows Mail.
What if any antivirus program do you have, and have you ever had a
Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer?

Also, if you have the Free Google Toolbar program installed, try
uninstalling it. Web pages that let you do a Google search without
having that program installed don't count.

If there is an accumulation of messages in the Outbox folder, open
the Outbox folder. Move as many of those messages as you can to
the Drafts folder. If any message can't be moved or deleted, apply
this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090

Although that article only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.

Incidentally, that fix was also included in Vista's SP1, so if you haven't
installed that, you are way overdue.
