Windows\Downloaded Program Files folder

One can not delete files and folders in the C:\Windows\Downloaded Program
Files folder without adversly affecting some programs, can they ? The reason
I ask is that we have one user that did this to try and save disk space (??)
and now some programs are prompting for Disk 1 when the program is launched
or when the computer is rebooted. TIA ...

Which programs are prompting for Disk One?

Might be worth a try to do a System Restore to a
time before the cleanup.

If files removed from the Downloaded Programs
Folder were needed...they could be re-downloaded
from the net.

Here's an excerpt from the following MSKB article:

"Downloaded program files are ActiveX controls
and Java programs that are downloaded automatically
from the Internet when you view certain pages."

It's weird because they deleted that folder on a few machines (the entire
folder) but it apparently only adversly affected a few programs on each
machine - namely Roxio and some scanning software for their scanners.

Maybe reinstalling the affected software
would be worth a try.

The downloaded files folder should rebuild
itself and the files should re-download from
the net when needed.

I'm thinking the issues you are describing
were caused by something else.
