I was advised by windows to run a disk diagnostic on the next start-up, as IE
kept shutting down with a .dll file error.
I ran this utility at the next start-up, but it gets to step 4 out of 5, and
sticks at 79% completed. I've tried this a few times now, with the same
result.
Is there a problem with my Hard drive?
I'm running XP SP2, IE Ver 6.
Cheers

Hi Ollie

Which particular .DLL is being reported in the error message when IE shuts
down?

Double click on My Computer then right click on the appropriate drive and
select Properties>Tools>Error-checking. See if that option completes.

Will,
That option works, running the disk checker from the properties menu, thanks.
I can't remember what .dll file was causing the shut down, as typically,
it's not doing it at present.
Thanks.

Hi Ollie!

In order to replace the missing .dll file u might try 'system file
checker' and for that u wud require ur windows xp CDROM. Just popin ur
windows xp cdrom into the drive. go to start->run. hit enter. type 'SFC
/SCANNOW' (without the inverted commas) and hit enter again. the system
file checker will try to detect corrupted system files and replace them
from the CD. Depending upon the speed the rom and ur system specs this
might take a while to complete. when done just reboot and see if it has
solved the problem.
Enjoy!!!!!!!
