Hi hoping to get some help am trying to search for a folder but can't get
desktop search to work, when it opens I get the following message in a yellow
bar,.... 'windows desktop isn't running. to start it , click the start
menu, point to all programs, and then click windows desktop search '....
doing this makes no difference is there any other way of enabling search?
thanks in advance....

I had the same problem with my WDS after I did a bit of service tweaking (see
Black Viper's Web Site). I found that WDS needs the Windows Search service to
run, which in turn requires the Terminal Services service to be running. If
you find that one or both of those services are disable or stopped, try
enabling and starting them: Right-click My Computer -> Manage -> Services and
Appications -> Services. Find and right-click the service. Select properties
and then make sure that the Start-up Type is set to Manual or Automatic. Then
under Service Status, press the Start button.

After trying all kinds of complicated stuff I saw on other sites, this
did the trick (once I started the Windows search service). Thanks.

What did? You improperly trimmed you post, removing any relevent
information it might have contained.
